Is your life expectancy the same as the average person?

Life expectancy tables can sometime help you think about your health and long-term future. However, they can be mis-leading if you’re using them to plan how long you should set your income for. You really can’t afford to run out of money and you’re probably not average anyway.

Income planner defaults to age 95 as a guide. If there are two of you, then the youngest and most healthy is the life to plan for.

“Life expectancy is an important indicator of the nation’s health.” People are living longer. Improved working conditions, reduced smoking rates and improved healthcare have all contributed to increasing life expectancy from generation to generation.

“In the most deprived areas, males at birth could expect to live 19 years less of their lives in “Good” health compared with the least deprived areas as measured by the slope index of inequality. For females, it was 20.2 years less.
